Oblivion:The Imperial City
|
||
The Imperial City (also known as the Imperial Capital, Cyrodiil City, or simply Cyrodiil) is the capital of Cyrodiil and the entire Empire. The circular city is on City Isle, an island in Lake Rumare in the Heartlands region at the center of the Imperial province. In the center of the city is Green Emperor Way, containing the Imperial Palace in White Gold Tower. Surrounding Green Emperor Way are six districts, starting in the northeast and going clockwise:
Also on City Isle is the Arcane University, the Imperial City Prison, and the Waterfront District, the city's harbor. Talos Bridge connects the island to the mainland near Weye to the west. Roads lead from the capital in all directions.
For more information about the Imperial City, see the lore article.
The Sewer System[edit]
Beneath the Imperial City is a sewer system as large as the city itself. The sewers can be accessed from most districts of the city; there are also a few entrances outside the city. The sewer system is a fairly complex maze. The eastern and western sections of the sewer do not connect to each other, but within those sections are many interconnections.
Occasionally, when an NPC in the Imperial City tries to travel to a different district of the city, their AI will decide that going through the sewers is quicker than walking the streets. This will cause them to enter the nearest sewer entrance and travel underground, possibly putting themselves in danger from rats, goblins, bandits, and other hazards.
The Eastern Sewers[edit]
The sewers that connect together in the eastern half of the city are (from north to south):
- The North Tunnel (accessible from the Imperial City Sewers - North Exit).
- The Market Sewers (under the Market District).
- Beneath the Bloodworks (under the Arena District, but not accessible from there).
- The Palace Sewers.
- The South East Tunnel (under the Arboretum, and also accessible from the Imperial Sewers - South-East Exit).
The Western Sewers[edit]
The sewers that connect together in the western half of the city are (from north to south):
- The Elven Garden Sewers (under the Elven Gardens District).
- This sewer also contains Sunken Sewers and Sewer Waterworks.
- The Talos Plaza Sewers (under the Talos Plaza District).
- The Temple Sewers (under the Temple District, but not accessible from there).
- This sewer also contains The South West Tunnel.
Other Sewers[edit]
There is an additional unconnected piece of the sewer:
- Imperial Prison Sewer, which should be familiar to you as part of the tutorial. A different version of the sewer is also used during Scheduled for Execution.
The Watch Towers[edit]
The watch towers are the tall structures in the six "corners" of the city. They serve as bunkers for the Imperial Guards, many of whom can be found sleeping at night on the towers' upper floors. This includes many essential and temporarily essential guards, such as Hieronymus Lex and Adamus Phillida, who become non-essential at the end of the Thieves Guild quest Taking Care of Lex and upon acceptance of the Dark Brotherhood quest Permanent Retirement, respectively.
Locations[edit]
There is a watch tower at each of six "corners" of the Imperial City. Their names make their locations rather self-explanatory.
