Zone 1: Elenglynn[edit]
This small dungeon contains numerous traps (in particular Dark Welkynd Stone traps), which make it challenging to get from the front door (Out) to the boss chest (B). Your first taste of what's to come are the six Swinging Blade in the entry corridor (D), which you can use to your advantage against the enemy nearby. Follow the corridor and you will arrive on a walkway making its way across a large room filled with water. A minor loot chest can be found on either side of the corridor, while two Welkynd stones are in front of you either on their pedestal or on the ground nearby
The walkway itself is rigged with a Spiked Barrier trap (F), which runs back and forth along its entire length and can cause serious damage; fighting enemies while on the walkway is not recommended. Any time spent lingering on the walkway also increases your chance of being targeted by the multiple Dark Welkynd Stones (E) positioned on pedestals in the water. To avoid the spiked barrier, use the side platform on the west side of the walkway, which also contains a minor loot chest:
- After activating the trap, step back and wait for it to come all the way towards you.
- As soon as it starts moving away again, run after it.
- Side step on to the side platform. While waiting here, you'll need to keep moving to dodge the Dark Welkynd Stones, or position yourself so that the spell blasts are blocked by the pillars on either side of the platform.
- When the barrier trap swings past again, run out and dash for the far end of the walkway.
It is recommended not to stop and fight the undead creature at the end of the walkway, due to your exposed position. Instead, open gate G via the nearby press block, ignore another enemy and head for the corridor to the west. From here you can fight both opponents without simultaneously being damaged by traps. Note that this is likely to attract the boss-level Necromancer Adept (A) in the next room. Alternatively, you can take out your enemies with ranged attacks from the shielded position on the platform or jump into the water. In the latter case, the Dark Welkynd Stones will still fire at you but their blasts will not affect you if you are underwater. There is nothing of interest in the water and a stairway back out is located just north of gate G. Regardless of your choice, a quick return to the western edge of the large room is worth it, as here you will find a minor loot chest, three Welkynd stones and a soul gem on a stone altar.
The western corridor branches out into two rooms. To the north is a small room where a single minor loot chest is guarded by four more Dark Welkynd Stones (E). They will activate once you step into the middle of the room. Continuing west instead leads to the room hosting the boss-level Necromancer Adept (A). The room is lit by braziers, adorned by Necromancer banners and hosts a stone altar with a corpse, a stone slab (b) and the boss chest (B) as well as some alchemical equipment and two soul gems at C. Seven Welkynd stones can also be found high up on pedestals arranged around the room.
