Lore:Imperial Battlemage of Tamriel
This article is about the head of the Elder Council. For Imperial Legion battlemages, see Imperial Battlemages.
The Imperial Battlemage serves as an advisor to the Emperor sometimes stylized as the Imperial Battlemage of the Elder Council,[1] the Imperial Battlemage of the Empire,[2] the Imperial Battlemage of Tamriel, Grand Chancellor,[3] Grand Vizier,[4] or Lord High Chancellor.[5][6]
They act as chief advisor to the Tamrielic Emperors on varying matters (such as: politics, warfare, occult sciences, et al).[3][7]
History[edit]
By the reign of Uriel Septim VII, it was customary for future Imperial Battlemages to be plucked from the Administers of Battlespire, the Spire Council, who were themselves battlemage classmen.[8]
Several historic figures have held The Imperial Battlemage title, including:
- Pelladil Direnni (served Potentate Versidue-Shaie)[9]
- Abnur Tharn (served Emperor Leovic)[10]
- Zurin Arctus (served Emperor Tiber Septim)[11]
- Jovron Direnni (served Empress Katariah)[9]
- Welloc (served Empress Morihatha)[12]
- Ud-Maniphas Segu (served Empress Morihatha)[UOL 1]
- Jagar Tharn (served Emperor Uriel Septim VII)[13]
- Ria Silmane (served Emperor Uriel Septim VII)[7]
- Ocato of Firsthold (served Emperor Uriel Septim VII)[14]
The Spire Council that administered the Battlespire was known to also operate facilities outside the Battlespire itself. One such location was the Dread Cellar, a magically warded prison where the Empire's worst enemies were held and interrogated, or tortured, for information. The Imperial Battlemage of Tamriel, traditionally selected from among the administrators of the Battlespire, was also aware of the existence of the facility and held visitation rights to it. The Dread Cellar operated for centuries until its eventual abandonment during the tenure of Abnur Tharn as Imperial Battlemage of Tamriel due to the collapse of the Empire, and it is unknown if its operation ever resumed.[15][16][17][18][8]
