A question[edit]

Heya I got a couple questions, would you mind if I used your tutorial on how you made your signature on my Sandbox (learning Wiki and HTML so have that to save info for me as well as test) and also is there a list of fonts that are available on the site? Maybe one set up like DKong27's WikiColors page. Sorry if this isn't the stuff that goes on talk pages I'm still trying to learn everything. --SPMcKinney 00:35, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Sure, feel free! And no, I don't think there is a list. You can look here for a list of templates that are related to different fonts. The only different actual font face I can find is Oblivion, which is Daedric writing. However, this requires that the user has the font installed on their computer, which probably isn't what you're looking for. • JAT 07:04, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you on both and I'll try looking around for the other fonts maybe its listed on a HTML tutorial or something... again thank you :D --SPMcKinney 16:09, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Hitting The Books/Shalidor's Insights[edit]

I had the problem of these two quests being active at the same time. I went to Fellglow Keep, the marker was there for the Shalidor's Insights book, but there was nothing there. I finished the Hitting The Books quest, returned the books from said quest, and went back to Fellglow Keep just to see what would happen. The book was in a chest right where the marker pointed. There was maybe two to four days of in game time that had passed, I don't know if that made any difference, but the book definitely was there when I went back the second time allowing the Shalidor's Insights quest to be finished. SkyrimBox[edit]

Heya just wanted to let you know I updated the corner pieces of the SkyrimBox to make the diagonal straight instead of well deformed. If ya don't like it feel free to revert to the last one.

EDIT: Ok...I guess I didn't the site doesn't seem to want to show the straight line for some reason :S and I guess there is no way to remove my "edited" one grr --SPMcKinneyTCE 00:23, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Alright, that's fine by me. The corners are rounded in-game, but straight should be fine. • JAT 01:21, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Hmm I coulda swore they were straight but turned on the xbox and your right, I guess the straight line make it look umm...crisper I guess is the word (though there is probably a better word). --SPMcKinneyTCE 01:43, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Skyrim Quests to Save for Later[edit]

Hey Jak.Sorry I forgot to put spaces when I edited the Quests to save for later on Quest Timing page.I'm a little tired.I apologize for a inconvenience. It was just that the Why and the Why Not categories for Dragon Rising were mixed up.Sorry.--Skyrimplayer 20:09, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Don't worry about it, we all make mistakes (especially when we're tired). You should see me editing a template when I'm tired - it isn't pretty. • JAT 21:46, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Vampire Page[edit]

Hey, thanks for fixing the NPC Summary table on the vampire page, next time I'll scroll all the way down on the NPC record to make sure I get all the info before reverting. :P Oh well, at least I don't feel as bad missing that, since Kiz missed it too! ABCface 22:44, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Haha, no problem! I almost missed it myself. • JAT 23:03, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Problem[edit]

Hello there,

I have a problem regarding the use of the forums and the IRC messaging services.

I cannot see any of my posts on either one after it has been posted, so I cannot use them and use my talk page instead.

I get pushed around a bit by high-ranking users for speaking on my talk page, but it's the only thingi would do.

I have been pointed in this direction, but the majority of the mentors are unavailable and I am not on great terms with all of them.

Please could you reply swiftly?

Sincerely,

Jamie the Dark Elf 22:09, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Jamie, if you were the person who said "How do I change my Username. Its been SO long since I've used any IRC", then yes, it was visible, but the chat wasn't active at that point and it's likely that nobody was paying attention to it. If you have issues with IRC through the site's java client, then perhaps downloading an IRC client would help you with that. Your firewall might be interfering with it. I don't know anything about the forums and can't help you with that matter, though... sorry. Vely►t►e 22:22, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
By the sounds of it, you need to be at least 13 years of age to use the forums. And by that, I mean that when you register your account you need to say that you're 13 years of age *wink wink*. As for the IRC, it looks like Vely just addressed it.
As for some of the other users appearing to be less than courteous, the main reason for that is that our website strives to be high-quality and professional, and thus we try to keep any and all forum-like topics to the forums. Here are a couple of guidelines that you should follow and will make having conversations much easier:
  1. Always indent your post with a colon. Edit a section of this page to see how people indent their posts (with colons :). Always indent your posts one more than the last person's post.
  2. Always sign your posts with four tilde's, like this: ~~~~. Always sign it right at the end of your post.
  3. Always add your post to the end of a talk page, not the middle. Otherwise, it'll screw up the chronological order.
  4. Always, always, always use the "Show Preview" button. It lets you see your changes before they are made, thus allowing you to get everything right in one edit rather than five.
That should be good for now. Good luck! • JAT 22:43, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Ok,
Well, I haven't Registered yet, so that's probably the problem with the forums, and I'm over the age limit.
That wasn't me on IRC, so I guess I'll have to figure that out in time.
Thanks guys,
Jamie the Dark Elf 06:15, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Base Weapons article TOC[edit]

So I went through this with The_Silencer about the placing of the TOC. It's visible on his talk/discussion page. I'm certain you both and plenty others have far more experience but I still at the bottom of his page argued why I figured it's better to place the TOC on the left. I'm not strongly fighting for a lost cause here, I just don't see the point of putting it to the right if even merely for a principle that's applied differently to different articles. --Barbapopo 17:58, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that. I had a solution typed up to fix everything, but I was distracted by real-life stuff and couldn't save the edits until the next day. You can see my handiwork here. The idea behind floating the TOC to the right is that that way, it pushes the text in a way that barely affects the format and the readability of the article. That page in particular had some odd formatting, so I had to mush it up a bit for it to work as it is intended. • JAT 20:02, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Looks good, nicely done. --Barbapopo 19:02, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

The wolf queen awakened[edit]

Quest Item Templates[edit]

Hi Jak. As you've probably seen on the CP, we're looking into ways to expand the functionality of the Quest Item templates. I think I've found a stupidly simple way around the multiple quest parameters, but I need to know where the current quest parameter is being used...it looks like it's not, but I want to be sure. Since this is your baby, I figured you'd know for certain. Thanks! Robin Hoodtalk 18:09, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

Well, one problem with {{LinkList}} is that it can't tell you whether or not there is more than one quest, which is a problem, because it should display "Quest" if there's one quest and "Quests" if there's more than one quest. I ended up using a {{#switch}} statement, which although isn't pretty, is very customizable, and gets the job done. To allow for more customized formatting of both the Quest and Icon fields, you can define the parameter with nolink&& at the beginning, like so: quest=nolink&&Quest: [[Skyrim:Something|Something Else]].... Of course, you can read all of this on the Community Portal, as well as on the template's history. • JAT 00:09, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
I would've approached it from a more open-ended style (e.g., allowing all of quest=name, quest={{LinkList...}}, or quest=[[name1]], [[name2]], and/or [[name3]]) and just added a "multiplequests" or "plural" parameter to switch the title, but your method has the advantage of forcing consistent punctuation, where mine would've leave it to the user, so that's a plus. Thanks for doing all of that today...I really flaked out this afternoon and got very little done even around the house, nevermind on UESP. Robin Hoodtalk 04:00, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
Not a problem. It's nice to be able to work on some templates for once. • JAT 15:03, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Just a question, is this your account? I know you've been doing a lot of testing recently, so this seems like the kind of thing you'd be up to. If you want to make the association between your account and one used for testing more clear, you can create an account while logged in. It'll say "Jak Atackka created Testaccount", making it obvious who made the account. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 14:02, 15 September 2012 (GMT)

Cite Book[edit]

Sorry, I thought this was something which had been noticed and discussed during my absence. The Cite book template is working, just not perfectly. It just seems to break down for a little while for some books after they are edited. Give it some time, and the problems with Response to Bero's Speech, Brief History of the Empire v 4, etc., should fix themselves. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 20:57, 18 September 2012 (GMT)

Okay, thanks for the heads up. It seems that the template is not properly defining the {{{page}}} variable (where it loads the title and such from), which is rather odd. • JAT 21:04, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
Jak: Silencer just pointed me to this, but I haven't been following what's going on. Let me know if you need help, but I'll assume you can find and fix the issue. Given your comments, I'm wondering if this is a similar problem to the Page Icon issue we've been seeing where the variables aren't properly saved at first, but when you purge or do a hard refresh, they're fine. Hey joshthenesnerd! Everyone has their own way of interpreting what era it is. I consider this to be the Second Era (before 0BC being the First Era, pre-history (before ~6000BC) being the Merethic Era, pre-homo sapiens being the Dawn Era). Others calculate era by what millennium it is, which I think is silly, considering that the First Era lasted just shy of 3,000 years. • JAT 15:09, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

Template Wizardry Requested[edit]

Your name came up in this discussion as someone who could work the last bit of magic required to get those templates to work. It's possible that I've done everything correctly - just not all at the same time, or I didn't wait long enough before reverting for the cache to refresh or something. But more likely I'm just missing some weird intricacy in those parser subroutines. Would you mind taking a look? (The template is still missing some of the needed features - making it possible to have a blank column for icon, or doing the nolink&& trick for multiples, but I wanted to get the basics working first before I messed around with that. Feel free to help with that as well if you want. Thanks. TheRealLurlock (talk) 01:32, 18 October 2012 (GMT)

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I fixed it. Your template logic was mostly correct, except that you were trying to load the icons from {{NS_FULL}}:{{{title}}} (for example, Skyrim:The Doors of Oblivion), but the icons are saved at Lore:{{{title}}}. I switched it to load the icons from the Lore page, and everything seems to be working just fine. I added a new variable, called {{{lorepage}}}, which allows you to specify the lore page, in case it has a different name than the in-game book. • JAT 17:25, 18 October 2012 (GMT)
Cool. Just added optional icon column parameter. Only thing it still needs is the nolink&& feature. And then we can do the same for Template:Book Skill, and also add the icons to Book Summary/Game as well. But for now, I can at least start adding icons to book pages now that we know the concept works. TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:02, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
Hmm. I don't know if it's broken or if it just takes way too long for these book pages to propagate, but I'm leaving it alone for now to see if these icons eventually appear. I've tried everything I could think of to try and force them to reload, but it's not working. Hard-refresh, purge page, null-edit, repeat at all levels of transclusion, still no effect. It may fix itself with time, but I'm going to wait to make sure it does before I do any more... TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:36, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
It worked while I was testing the template, but yeah, it is taking a while to update. • JAT 03:19, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
It's faster now - the trick is you have to Purge the pages in order, first the Lore page, then the game book page(s), and then the page with the list. Editing the Lore page is not enough. You have to edit and then Purge. That seems to do it. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:41, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
Ah, okay, I see. We'll have to ask Daveh about that one. Also, it looks like the nolink&& is working just fine (see Skyrim:Books for an example). • JAT 03:48, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
Yeah, I saw. You were stymied a bit by the fact that I got the image names backwards, but when I fixed it, they showed up fine. We'll have to see what it does to the layout on both game book pages and list pages when there are books with 2 icons showing. Could be interesting because the layout may need to be one way for game book pages (left-aligned) and another for lists (center-aligned). Not sure how to deal with that one... TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:58, 19 October 2012 (GMT)

() Okay, another problem - it doesn't seem to work for book pages without a Lore page, e.g. Skyrim:Admonition Against Ebony. Since the values are never being #saved, they can't be #loaded. Can you save from a sub-template like that without overriding the Lore template? I'll let you figure that one out... TheRealLurlock (talk) 04:10, 19 October 2012 (GMT)

Already figured that out. You can define the {{{lorepage}}} variable, which is where it loads the icons from. • JAT 15:58, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
Ohh, so that's what that's for. Is there maybe a better way to do that? Like do something with an #ifexists, and if it can't find the Lore page it automatically goes to the gamespace page? It's already transcluding other stuff from that page, so it should be possible to automate it such that it's not necessary to make any change at all to the list pages. Maybe the gamespace page could automatically #save the values only if the Lore page doesn't exist, so the Book Normal template would load from there instead. Just feels like it should be possible somehow. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:15, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
I try to avoid using #ifexist, because it is very server-intensive (IIRC), and any edit to Skyrim:Books would call the function hundreds of times. However, autodetecting is a good idea, and I changed both Template:Book Normal and Template:Book Summary to do this. I just had it #load the values from both pages. Because the variable is only #save'd on one page, this doesn't seem to cause any problems. • JAT 16:19, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
So as it stands now - the iconpage in Book Summary and the lorepage in Book Normal are both no longer needed? Just being sure. It seems okay without them, but it takes so long to propagate these changes it's hard to tell if it's working properly. TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:13, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
I just tested it on Skyrim:Admonition Against Ebony, and it's working fine. If the lore page is different than the gamespace page (for example, Skyrim:Advances in Lockpicking and Lore:Advances in Lock Picking), you now have the choice of either defining lorepage when you use {{Book Normal}} or just defining SRIcon on the Skyrim page. I've removed the iconpage variable, in favor of this new approach. • JAT 18:48, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
I'm leaning in favor of defining it on the book page rather than the list page for several reasons - First, the book may be listed on multiple pages, so it shouldn't be necessary to remember to include the lorename every time. Second, it avoids having to make dozens of edits to each list page in addition to the book page edits. Ideally, all the necessary data would be on the Lore page only and on the game page only if there isn't a Lore page. The list page shouldn't have to change at all. I think we're pretty close on this. Only thing left is to make the same changes to Template:Book Skill. (Also need to test this on Morrowind pages at some point, but I need to revive my old computer for that, because I sadly lost my install discs.) TheRealLurlock (talk) 20:07, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
You know, in retrospect, I'm wondering what the advantage is of listing the icons on the Lore page at all? It doesn't show there, it's game-specific, and all it does is make editing it more complicated. (You can't preview, and you have to purge repeatedly to get things to show up...) Why not JUST put the icons on the gamespace pages, along with the other game-specific info like ID and weight/value, and not bother doing it at all in Lore space? Seems much simpler. TheRealLurlock (talk) 20:17, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
I originally proposed doing it on the lore pages so we could kill two birds with one stone when adding the Oblivion and Skyrim icons, but like I said on the CP, it doesn't matter much either way. • JAT 03:15, 21 October 2012 (GMT)

I've got that higher definition image, cleaned up and resized to 180x180px like the other one, as you requested. At your convenience, if you're satisfied, you can just upload it to the site. If you decide there is a tweak you want, then let me know :)

Oh, and that image is linked from my imgur account, not the Wiki. Eric Snowmane(talkemail) 17:32, 27 October 2012 (GMT)

Nice! However, I didn't want it resized to 180x180px - I wanted it at 1350x1350px. Could you possibly upload that version? • JAT 19:30, 27 October 2012 (GMT)
Ah, sorry, I thought you wanted it that sized for the thumb. Here is a link for my full image for you to upload or tweak, if you feel the desire to. :) Eric Snowmane(talkemail) 19:50, 27 October 2012 (GMT)

[edit]

Where did you get the Nintendo logo from? It says "uploaded with permission of author". Is that from somewhere that Nintendo has said is an allowable usage? Wikipedia can get away with it on articles that are about a Nintendo; our using it on userboxes could be considered a copyright or trademark violation if it's not explicitly allowed. Robin Hoodtalk 00:58, 29 October 2012 (GMT)

I obtained permission from the person who created the image (a user on DeviantArt, I could track them down again). • JAT 00:59, 29 October 2012 (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that's a replication of the standard Nintendo logo, even if someone else created it. It's dubious if we can use it or not, particularly in Canada, where we fall under "fair dealing" instead of "fair use". Unless Daveh has a lawyer friend handy who can confirm this sort of thing is okay, it's probably safer if we use an image that's clearly not copyrighted...a picture of a Nintendo or something like that. Nope - I just saw this pattern somewhere else, and I guess I've just kept it up. I know that some of the .js solutions are Monobook-specific, but I guess that logic didn't carry over :P • JAT 20:31, 29 October 2012 (GMT)

All done. I was wondering why my .css file was triggering those false positives, or why nobody else's is doing the same. • JAT 00:45, 30 October 2012 (GMT)

Lore Transcluding[edit]

I noticed that you added TESO images to the race lore articles for transclusion in the Online namespace. I would have thought it would be simpler to just add them directly to the Online pages, to avoid cluttering up the lore article. Is there any specific reason for transcluding them? —Legoless (talk) 14:10, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

The problem is that the images from the Lore article are transcluded along with the text, and although this works just fine in most namespaces, it doesn't make sense to have both images listed on the Online article (which would occur if you added the images and transcluded the lore article). IMO, the two images are mutually exclusive, due to their completely different sources. As for putting the image on the lore article, I figured that since all of our race pages in gamespaces transclude the lore article (for example, Skyrim:Bosmer, Oblivion:Bosmer, and Morrowind:Bosmer), we'd do the same in the Online namespace, and if we were transcluding the lore article anyways, we might as well transclude the appropriate image.
At least that's what I was thinking. If it makes much more sense to do something else, then I wouldn't mind changing it, but to me, this makes the most sense. • JAT 17:40, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
I forgot about the pocket guide images. It still might be simpler just to exclude them from being transcluded into the Online namespace and add the TESO-specific images to the actual pages. —Legoless (talk) 19:12, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
If you feel that makes more sense, then feel free to change it over. Unless we plan to move the image around, though, we probably don't have to change it. • JAT 19:29, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

Dragon Neglect?[edit]

Jak, I think/guess you were the chief architect, or one of them, for the tables on Skyrim:Dragon#Dragon? I'm comparing those to the table on Skyrim:Mirmulnir, and finding the latter lacking by comparison. Do you (or someone who works with tables more than me) want to upgrade it? Don't tell me I should figure out how to make tables by myself. Because ... Well, should I? --JR (talk) 06:18, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

I made the table for the pre-Eshe version - the current tables were designed by her. It looks like the major changes were changing Stamina to Sta., and adding columns for bite, wing, and tail damage. I think you can handle this (partly because it's fairly simple, and partly because I'm too lazy). • JAT 07:09, 11 November 2012 (GMT)
Doh! OK then. It's on my list. What peaceful page colors. No wonder you're lazy. --JR (talk) 07:28, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

Spam tag[edit]

I wanted to give you a detailed explanation for reverting your latest tag, which the character count wouldn't have allowed. It's not a spam page. "Внутренние ссылки", according to Google Translate (of course, it's never accurate, so I may be wrong) says "internal links", and the contents of the page were all valid links to pages that exist on our wiki. ES(talkemail) 06:43, 16 November 2012 (GMT)

Okay, that explains it. I really shouldn't {{speed}} stuff when I'm tired. • JAT 14:49, 16 November 2012 (GMT)

Test[edit]

Testing...

More testing...

Test 187[edit]

Is this a bot edit?

Yes, it seems to be. Having fun? :) Don't forget to sign talk page edits if the bot makes any, though obviously on your own talk page, it's not a big deal. Robin Hoodtalk 02:27, 20 November 2012 (GMT)
Has it finally happened then? A bot asked a self-referential question? ...And under the ominous heading of "Test 187". I'm running into my BOL. --JR (talk) 05:08, 20 November 2012 (GMT)

Dated Category Menu[edit]

Hiya, Jak! I just wanted to say thanks for taking a go at the Dated Category Menu template and subtemplates! The overlap issue is all gone, so nice work! Plus, I like the style of it better now anyway, it just looks better. :) That overlap issue was bothering me, so thanks again! — ABCface 03:52, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

No problem! Sorry for polluting the RC - I went through a few different designs, and it took me more than a few tries to get everything working. • JAT 04:23, 26 November 2012 (GMT)
Don't be sorry, template work is confusing to a lot of us around here (well, to me at least) so it's nice when those of you who know how to deal with them do so. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to take care of it! — ABCface 04:44, 26 November 2012 (GMT)
Great work on the template, Jak. Much better style now! Robin Hoodtalk 06:02, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

Skyrim torture victim ally?[edit]

Hi there. I noticed this today while running around leveling up my Magics and couldn't find any literature regarding it. One of the torture victims in the Dawnstar Sanctuary (RefID: 00037D9B) glows as an ally when you cast detect life in the chamber. What this means I have no idea but if it isn't just a programming oversight then (as a veteran gamer) I say it could be indicative of something. Know anything about this? Zach69.254.142.176 19:12, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

At first glance, I'd say that this is an oversight, but I'll look into it later tonight, when I'm at my computer. • JAT 23:42, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

Includeonly tags on DB et al[edit]

I actually added those in there with the intent of doing the others at some point because the standard on most of our templates is to include samples of the template only in the Examples section. Robin Hoodtalk 06:49, 3 December 2012 (GMT)

That's fine. Alphabetface was talking to me on the IRC about how it was bugging her that the one was different from the others, so I changed it for her. • JAT 06:51, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
What really bugged me is the huge empty space at top, not the inconsistency. But they should be consistent, either way. — ABCface 06:53, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
Gah! We're both doing the same(ish) things at the same time! Good solution with the NS Docs...hadn't thought of that one! It's just so...wrong...to put the <cleanspace> tags anywhere but the beginning! ;) Robin Hoodtalk 07:01, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
haha, thanks to both of you for fixing this stuff! — ABCface 07:03, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
(In response to your undone edit) Moving the <cleanspace> tags wasn't enough, so I changed the ==Header== on a new line to a <h2>Header</h2> on the same line. You actually were seeing the correct thing - I had just changed the template in between you first viewing and then purging the page :) • JAT 07:10, 3 December 2012 (GMT)

DB Books[edit]

First off, you're my new personal hero, and a cookie is not enough for you, sir! Second, have you made pages for every DB book now, or are there more to come? Third, would you mind updating Skyrim:Books? Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 07:10, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

Thanks! The vast majority of the books left are either notes or journals, both of which belong in just the Dragonborn namespace, but glancing through the list, there are a few lore-worthy books left. And I don't mind updating that page, but I'm planning on waiting until after I've added all of the books so I can update Skyrim:Books, Lore:Books by Author, and Lore:Books in 3 large bulk edits. • JAT 14:56, 6 December 2012 (GMT)
I hope I didn't infringe on your project here, I did go a bit into bot mode and added those notes and journals. But I didn't care for links or lore worthiness for now. Some recipes are left, not decided how to represent them and 'A Mysterious Note' will need a disambiguation scheme. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:45, 6 December 2012 (GMT)
Thanks to both Jak and Alfwyn for adding this stuff, and ME for going through and cleaning up the books with lore links and whatnot too. I've been wanting to link to some of these notes and letters while editing here and there, and that's much easier (and looks nicer) when the pages already exist. :) — ABCface 16:00, 6 December 2012 (GMT)
Thanks for getting the rest of those, Alfwyn! I don't mind at all - getting the information on the site is all that matters to me. I'll still update Skyrim:Books, Lore:Books by Author, and Lore:Books when I get home, and after double-checking that everything is there I'll move on to something else. • JAT 20:33, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

ID template, take...5?[edit]

I don't know how well #rreplace will perform on pages with lots of these, but how about this: {{User:RobinHood70/Het|Spell IDs: (00012abc), xx345def, and look at this text in between that's not in Georgian 0x00123456!}} Robin Hoodtalk 05:37, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

Excellent! Regex is perfect for this. The servers won't like it at first, but once the page is cached, it should be okay. • JAT 06:31, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

Template:Achievement[edit]

Hey Jak, I just noticed that there are a bunch of nonexistent achievement images appearing in Special:WantedFiles that I think are a result of your latest tweaks to {{Achievement}}. It's easy enough to nowiki that stuff out so the wanted files list is clean, but it would be awesome if the Achievement template could support user pages too...y'know, for when people are working in sandboxes ;). Any way you can make that work? eshetalk 16:14, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

I've addressed the problem, which was two-fold, and hopefully just created a useful new template in so doing. It may cause some unwanted effects, though, like categorizing sandboxes in places we don't want them to. To some degree, we should alter the templates to properly deal with sandboxes, and in other cases, we'll just have to say "hey, it's a sandbox...deal with it till it goes back to gamespace". Of course, it may end up being too much of a hassle to do all that, but we'll see how it works out. Robin Hoodtalk 21:32, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
Hey, awesome! Thanks for taking care of that, RH! :) eshetalk 21:39, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

Adding Dragonborn shouts to main shouts page[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to include the dragon shouts found on Dragonborn into the list found on the main dragon shouts page. I type in the entry the same way as the others posted in the list (Battle Fury for example) and when I look in the preview, it does not show up like the others. Is there something I'm missing? Or is there some things not set up yet to get everything nice looking? Would appreciate any help to get to the bottom of this and learn something. Jake-518 (talk) 04:32, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

My guess is that it's checking for shouts in the Skyrim namespace, but these shouts are in the Dragonborn namespace. I'd first ask on the talk page if we want to add those shouts to that page or create a new page, like Dragonborn:Shouts. I'd check all of this myself, but my internet is running obscenely slowly - it took me 15 minutes just to get to this page. • JAT 04:48, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
Skyrim:Dragon Shouts already exists. — ABCface 05:00, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
I figured that since the Dawnguard shouts are on there, the Dragonborn shouts might as well be included as a comprehensive list of all dragon shouts. I'll move on to that talk page. Thanks. Jake-518 (talk) 05:15, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
Dawnguard shouts are there because it is a plug-in and doesn't have its own namespace. Dragonborn is considered and expansion, and IMO, Dragonborn shouts should remain on its own page. We document Dragonborn armor, weapons, ingredients, powers, spells, blessings, trainers, followers, etc. on their own Dragonborn pages; I don't see why dragon shouts should be any different. ~ Psylocke 05:23, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

DB Loading Screens[edit]

Thanks for fixing the model names there...I never even noticed I'd picked the wrong column from the database! Robin Hoodtalk 02:12, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

Sure thing! I've been searching for Dragonborn-related stuff I can do with the CK, and I came across that. • JAT 04:55, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

Thanks![edit]

I can never post on the right talk page, can I? Thanks for fixing the template problem :D. eshetalk 18:55, 14 December 2012 (GMT)

Haha, no problem! You were right, the problem is that it's in a different namespace. To force a namespace, use this:
{{Achievement|Dragon Hunter|ns_id=SR}}
SR-achievement-Dragon Hunter.png Dragon Hunter (20 points/Bronze) — Absorb 20 dragon souls
Notice that it's SR instead of Skyrim - this is because the icon images are all saved under SR-achievement... I'm not sure if the achievement belongs on that page to begin with, but I do see the reasoning behind it. I tried to put it under a different header, to show that it's not part of the base game. • JAT 18:58, 14 December 2012 (GMT)
Actually, it doesn't matter whether you use ns_id or ns_base as the parameter, except in cases of inheriting it from higher-level templates (which is why I restored inheriting ns_base in the Achievement template):
  • SR-achievement-Dragon Hunter.png Dragon Hunter (20 points/Bronze) — Absorb 20 dragon souls
  • SR-achievement-Dragon Hunter.png Dragon Hunter (20 points/Bronze) — Absorb 20 dragon souls
Note that there's no inheritance going on here, so it's not the restored ns_base that makes this work. You could do the same with the simple {{NS_BASE}} template I set up in my sandbox (not substituted, cuz that fails for whatever reason, so feel free to delete/<nowiki>/whatever these once you've read this):
  • {{User:RobinHood70/Zain|ns_id=SR}} → Skyrim
  • {{User:RobinHood70/Zain|ns_base=Skyrim}} → Skyrim
Of course, Neph went all the way and basically lets you pass anything to anything, so you can mix things up like:
  • {{User:RobinHood70/Zain|ns_id=Skyrim}} → Skyrim
  • {{User:RobinHood70/Zain|ns_base=134}} → Skyrim
And if you're wondering why 134 works, 134 is Skyrim's MediaWiki ID, which you can confirm with the "normal" magic word: {{ns:134}} → Skyrim. Neph explained this better than I did, I think, at Reserved Words in the MetaTemplate docs. Robin Hoodtalk 22:29, 14 December 2012 (GMT)
Okay, thanks for explaining that. I'll have to look over that page. • JAT 22:32, 14 December 2012 (GMT)

Dwarven Weapons in Oblivion[edit]

How do you get more dwarven weapons in the world in oblivion? — Unsigned comment by Leveler (talkcontribs) at 05:21 on 23 December 2012

Hi Leveler. Jak or someone else will probably answer your question here. Unless you have a certain reason for asking Jak, you can also put your question on this page. We usually start new topics at the bottom of a page. You can do this by clicking the + sign at the very top of the page. Also, please sign your comments or questions by clicking the signature button above the editing box (it's to the right of the "no W") button, which is above the white editing box that opens after you begin editing. Or, you can type ~~~~ at the end of your last line. --JR (talk) 03:08, 24 December 2012 (GMT)
