Quick Walkthrough

1. Talk to Anatolius Datus about duties and the BALROG.
2. Use the control panel to turn the Daedron Field Generator off and on again.
3. Talk to Anatolius again.
4. Use the control panel to raise the BALROG's rods.
5. Go into the BALROG's room and inspect it.
6. Use the control panel to lower the BALROG's rods.
7. Talk to Anatolius again.
8. Bring Anatolius eight pieces of dwemer scrap metal and two greater soul gems.

Detailed Walkthrough

Any Dwemer ruin will have scrap metal, but the fastest way is to take the guild guide to old ebonheart and go to the Dwemer ruin due east of the city.

Quest Stages

The following Journal ID and Index codes can be used with the Journal console command to manually update the quest to a certain point.

10		Anatolius Datus asked me to inspect something called the BALROG. He said that I should start by turning off the Oblivion Stream Conduit and turning it back on so he can take notes on it.
20		Anatolius Datus told me to turn off the Daedron Field Generator and turn it back on so he can continue to take notes.
40		Anatolius Datus told me to raise the BALROG's rods and inspect them to see if anything stands out. He gave me three health potions to counteract the damage that the BALROG may do to me. Anatolius also emphasized that I must lower the BALROG's rods once I finish to avoid any instability.
50		Several of the BALROG's rods are visibly corroded.
70		Anatolius Datus said that he needs me to find eight pieces of dwemer scrap metal and two greater soul gems so he can repair the corroded rods on the BALROG.
100	Finishes quest	I brought the soul gems and Dwemer scrap metal to Anatolius Datus. He gave me a spare piece of safety equipment in thanks.
