Waking up at a stone[edit]
My character activated the Earth Stone, and that night when she went to sleep, she woke up at the Wind Stone, working on it. I'm guessing we should put this under Notes, but I was wondering if anyone else could share their experiences if this has happened: Which stones did you activate and wake up at? It's mentioned here to bring discussion to this page. I just wanted to add, regarding that page, that indeed, simply being on Solstheim starts the sleepwalking. The very first thing I did upon arrival was rent a room at the Retching Netch, and I woke up at the Beast Stone. 50.41.159.254 12:02, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

- Reagarding the "verification needed" for the Go to the Earth Stone objective in the Quick Walkthrough:
- Once leaving the ship at Raven Rock, you have the opportunity to talk to the townspeople about Miraak. Depending on who you talk to, some will say that there is a connection between Miraak and the Earth Stone, which will produce the objective "Investigate the shrine" (the shrine is the Earth Stone). If you go there while this objective is active, Neloth will ask you why you are not in the same state as the people who are there, and you will be able to ask him about Miraak, and he will point you to the temple. This triggers the objective "Reach the Temple of Miraak" and completes "Search for information" and "Investigate the shrine". Alternatively, if you talk to enough people in Raven Rock, some of them may mention the temple without you ever having to go to the Earth Stone. This will also trigger the objective "Reach the Temple of Miraak" and complete "Search for information" and "Investigate the shrine". If you visit the Earth Stone after this point, Neloth will still greet you in the same way, but will not necessarily also provide the same information.
- Addition: Touching the Earth Stone will cause you to become enthralled as well, and Neloth will comment on this, and try to snap you out of it. Making any movement will break the spell, and Neloth will commend you on your free will.
- Extension: Not sure if this is directly related, but when I went to sleep in the Raven Rock Cornerclub after touching the stone, I woke up working on the shrine at the Wind Stone, at the other end of the island. This needs looking into in order to determine whether this would happen anyway, without activating the Earth Stone, or is a recurring result of having touched it previously. --Enodoc (talk) 21:39, 17 December 2012 (GMT)

- Re: Wind Stone - seems it is a default location to awaken in order to put you close to the Temple and/or the Skall Village. I hadn't even gone near a Stone when I took a nap after exiting the from liberating the mine. - When sleeping on Solstheim, before starting the Dragonborn core questline, I've woken up at both the Sun Stone and the Beast Stone. I haven't woken up at the Wind Stone or Earth Stone. That character discovered both the Sun and Beast stones by waking up at them, so definitely had not touched them before. --Morrolan (talk) 19:08, 26 January 2013 (GMT)

- Mostly inside Severin Manor. Once at Wreck of the Strident Squall I think, possibly also at Bloodskal Barrow or Haknir's Shoal, not sure about those last two at all though. The location I woke up seemed somewhat random, Severin Manor sent me to both Beast and Sun Stones but usually to Sun Stone (which is sort of handy for visiting the Telvanni anyway). - In the main article here, someone added: "If you sleep in a bed after you've completed The Temple of Miraak quest, and before you complete At the Summit of Apocrypha, you will wake up working at the temple." This is not correct. I've slept several times in beds since completing the Temple of Miraak quest and am only just now getting ready to do At the Summit of Apocrypha, and at no time have I woke up working at the temple.
- I'm not sure if already learning the first word to Bend Will has anything to do with that, or perhaps if you clear all of the All-Maker Stones, or perhaps simply making a trip back to Skyrim - all I know is that I've slept in beds in both Skyrim and in Severin Manor and had no issues as described. - I think it's more complicated than that (see also here). It seems to be that if you activate any one of the affected stones, you begin to work at that stone. If you then sleep somewhere, you may wake up working at any of the affected stones. Until the CK can be checked, this is only a theory, but I'm thinking that you get added to the DLC2PillarBuilderFaction (or a player-character equivalent) which kicks in if you go to sleep. After all, it is only when NPCs should be sleeping that they go to work on the stones. Something must clear you from that faction (again, it can't be checked until DB is released on the PC and there is access to the files), as it doesn't happen if you return to Skyrim. Knowledge of Bend Will and/or completing stages of Cleansing the Stones may also affect membership in that faction. --Enodoc (talk) 23:41, 2 February 2013 (GMT)
- If Dragonborn is installed, and you haven't cleansed the stones, and you sleep on Solstheim, then you may wake up working at one of the stones. Presumably this is because during your sleep you were controlled by Miraak. However does this note belong here? Touching the stones[edit]
From my experience, touching the stones is not a prerequisite to waking up working at them. The current character I'm playing went to Solstheim before even completing Dragon Rising, and routinely woke up at a stone, usually Sun Stone, whenever sleeping at night. Sleeping during the day does not seem to trigger waking up at a stone though. --Morrolan (talk) 14:29, 7 February 2013 (GMT)
- I agree. That's the conclusion I came to as well from the post by 68.* Although the info about the day/night distinction is useful, as I hadn't thought about that. Any idea from your experience what causes it to stop? I think being in Skyrim halts it temporarily, but it will restart when you get back to Solstheim. - Not sure. My current character hasn't completed the Dragonborn main quest, but I haven't been to Solstheim in a few weeks (real time, not game time). I'll post as soon as I get back to Skyrim, I've been doing other things. Definitely completing the Dragonborn main quest is sufficient to stop the waking up working effect, also you are right in that the waking up working effect only ever happens when you are in Solstheim. --Morrolan (talk) 02:30, 8 February 2013 (GMT)

- Another note - if you activate the stones in pre-Dragonborn main quest Solstheim while you are awake, you do not get the power that they grant, but instead start working on them. - Okay, at this point I've cleansed each stone (except the Tree Stone at Miraak's Temple) and after each I would sleep an hour at a time until I woke up elsewhere. Now that all but the Tree Stone are clear, I tried this again, and went a whole 5 game days without waking up at the Tree Stone until I finally got bored - that's 120 attempts, so I think that maybe when you clean up the other stones, you don't wake up even at the Tree Stone anymore. Is this conclusive enough evidence to edit the page? It is, after all, before the end of the questline. Or do we need to test it more? Alarra (talk) 18:08, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

- Sounds conclusive enough to me. So it starts as soon as you arrive on Solstheim, regardless of activating the stones, and ends when Cleansing the Stones is completed. Sleeping location[edit]
I think the stone you wake up at may depend partly on where you sleep. I slept a fairly large number of times in Severin Manor, and only ever woke up at either Sun Stone, Earth Stone or Tree Stone. Then I tried sleeping at Bloodskal Barrow (outside) and woke up at Beast Stone. It's clear that you never wake up at a cleansed stone; once I use Bend Will on a stone I never wake up at it again. Also, once you cleanse stones, it seems that it becomes less likely for you to wake up at one. I woke up at Sun Stone twice in a row until cleansing it, and then I slept a few more times before waking up at Earth. I think what happens is the game randomly determines which stone you're going to wake up at based partly on which bed you sleep in, and if that stone has been cleansed, the waking up working effect doesn't happen. I'm currently playing with a character that's just past Dragon Rising, has learned Bend Will, but hasn't done Way of the Voice or any of the Dragonborn core questline, partly in order to experiment with the stones. --Morrolan (talk) 02:33, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Subtitle bug[edit]
Everytime you touch a stone (not cleansed) Miraak will say something. I then have the bug that his subtitle will stay on the screen. Had that two/three times already. Even when subtitles are turned off the text remains on the screen, as well when i talk to others. WeeziMonkey (talk) 14:59, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

Castle Karstaag Caverns[edit]
Apparently sleeping in them, on the hay piles the rieklings use, does not place you at an All-Maker Stone. I just slept there 10 times in a row and did not wake up at a stone; this is on a pre-Dragonborn Solstheim with a character that hasn't done Dragon Rising yet. --Morrolan (talk) 01:32, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
- And a number of beds I slept in after Castle Karstaag then did not put me at an All-Maker Stone, including Severin Manor. This is weird. I've returned to Skyrim on this character now; I'll see if when I return the waking up working effect has returned, but right now it looks like sleeping in the Castle may immunize you completely. --Morrolan (talk) 00:01, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
- Returned to Solstheim. This appears to be permanent on this playthrough. Either sleeping at Castle Karstaag or something I did not long before sleeping there has immunized me from waking up working at an All-Maker Stone. At least that's what my testing seems to be showing is the case. Once you've learned the first word of power of Bend Will, you don't have to unlock it, you no longer wake up at an All-Maker Stone. Can anyone verify this? --Morrolan (talk) 00:04, 18 March 2013 (GMT)
- I can confirm that this is not the case. I found/unlocked Bend Will the first day I installed the game, but I continued to wake up at the stones for the next month of playing until I finally tackled the rest of the main quest. Alarra (talk) 16:43, 4 April 2013 (GMT)

- Are you on PC? (I'm on XBox.) Maybe it was sleeping at Castle Karstaag that did it. Very weird, but I had two characters that hadn't even completed Temple of Miraak lose the wake up working effect, and learning Bend Will was the only common event I could figure out.

- I've looked it up in the Creation Kit and it's completing the "Cleansing the Stones" quest (DLC2MQ03B) that stops you from being transported to work at the stones.
- In addition: You need to be in the Solstheim worldspace, the Dark Brotherhood initiation quest (the one where you recieved the "we know" letter and are abducted the next time you sleep) needs to be not active and the location you sleep in either needs to be outside in Solstheim or in an area that has the "LocTypeDwelling" keyword (which Castle Karstaag doesn't have).
- The chance for this to happen is 100% the first time you sleep and all of those conditions are met. After the first time, the chance is set to 33%.
- If anyone wants to confirm, this is handled in the script DLC2PillarScript.

Dialogue[edit]
I was wondering if it would be better if we listed the 'main' dialogue cycle as one, and then added the alternatives separately. In my opinion, it makes less sense to have the alternatives bundled in the main body, since they are less commonly heard. The dialogue also comes in pairs, which are not so easy to distinguish at the moment. For clarity, the alternatives are Here in his temple (alternative to Here in his shrine), Here we reclaim (alternative to By night we reclaim), and What faithless minds have stolen (alternative to What by day was stolen). Alternatively, we could add the alternatives in the same line as their counterparts so the cycle of pairs is easier to distingush. --Enodoc (talk) 10:55, 10 May 2013 (GMT)

Being a werewolf seems to make the waking up working effect very unreliable.[edit]
Specifically, it seems to happen once during each play session if a werewolf sleeps on Solstheim, then not again until the next time I shut down the XBox and play Skyrim again. Weird. Annoying Bend Will victims into coherence?[edit]
So, I decided to do a little test to see if I could get these people back to their senses without cleansing the stone. I sprinted into them, and this evidently brought them out of their trance for a few seconds so that they could tell me to "Be careful!". Considering they are supposed to be brainwashed and usually never say anything of their own free will (they don't say anything other than the lines Miraak controls them to say), I think this is worth noting. Going to try attacking them now. Just tried that, it also reverts them to normal, at least while they're in combat. — Unsigned comment by 65.185.145.37 (talk) at 22:56 on 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Additional info: also brings them out of their trance momentarily (long enough they begin to attack you) if you are caught pickpocketing them. -I know its not quite *moral* to pickpocket a tranced unaware zombie, as opposed to a person who is aware of their surroundings, but I really wanted the deal outfit and it was the first time I ran into it, also - keys. I figured I wouldnt have any issues since they were tranced out, so patiently (and with a surprising amount of frustrating effort) managed to hide myself out of anyone's view and grabbed some things. Imagine my surprise when my target got snippy and attacked me.

Why do so many Non-Skaal pray there?[edit]
Only on the stone closest to the Skaal Village there were captured Skaal building Miraak's shrine. The other four stones had captured Elves or Rieklings. If the stones count as All-Maker stones, why did Elves and Rieklings pray on them in the first place? All these Elves don't believe in the All-Maker, do they? They believe in their heathen gods ("Eight/Nine Divines") and the rather animal-like Rieklings probably don't know something like religion at all. 212.186.15.63 18:23, 30 April 2020 (GMT)
