Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Go to the Cliffside Retreat and read Zaharia's note.
- (Optional) Disrupt Zaharia's plan and remove the Note to Ehlhiel in Temple of the Divines.
- Go to Lost Echo Cave and defeat the person there.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
This quest starts at Cliffside Retreat, with a barrel that has Zaharia's Note on top of it alongside Guard's Dossier: Ehlhiel. Read the note to start the quest, you can either help Zaharia, a Crimson Dirk, and kill the traitor Ehlhiel, or you can help save Ehlhiel's life.
If you decide to save Ehlhiel, head to the Temple of the Divines in Solitude, read and take the note on the dresser upstairs on the right.
Either way go to Lost Echo Cave, where you will have to defeat Zaharia if you took the note from the Temple of the Divines or Ehlhiel if you didn't. Afterwards loot your reward from Zaharia.
Notes[edit]
- Although the quest entries read that a Thalmor double agent betrayed a member of the Blades, Guard's Dossier: Ehlhiel and Zaharia's Note reads that Ehlhiel betrayed the Crimson Dirks for the city guard captains and the East Empire Company. This suggests that the storyline of the quest was changed at some point, but the quest objectives were not updated to match.

10 | Hunters in Skyrim are known to have retreats in the mountains with supplies and food. If I'm ever in the area near Solitude, I should stop by Cliffside Retreat.

20 | At Cliffside Retreat, I found a dossier that implies a bandit has become an asset of the Thalmor. The accompanying note says that another agent, Zaharia, intends to enact revenge by arranging a meeting at Lost Echo Cave. I can save the Thalmor agent by intercepting her note, or try to help Zaharia by going to the cave.
