Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Larenis Maricius is a former legionnaire who lives in his home in Brina Cross. He has a burning question on his mind - is his neighbor, Petri, lying about her past service in the Imperial Legion? He's fairly sure that yes, she is, and will ask you to prove it. He suggests traveling to Fort Heath and speaking to Sapillius Tarvetius, the commander there, to see if he has any record or recollection of a Petri.

Petri herself will keep schtum if asked about her past at this point, so do as Larenis suggests. Fort Heath can be reached by traveling southwards across the countryside, or else you can use the carriage service at Brina Cross to fast travel to Anvil, then Hal Sadek - a small village just south of the fort.

Once at Fort Heath, go through the General Quarters and upwards to reach the Commander's Chamber where Sapillius stands. Ask him about Petri, and he'll confess no recollection of her, and will suggest that you ask the fort's former commander, Sorius Lavin, in Anvil instead. Sorius lives in the Canal West Tenements in the city's Little Arenthia quarter. Seek out his apartment there and speak to him about Petri. He's no recollection of that name, but does tell a tale of a Redguard woman named 'Rayina' who once abandoned her post and was never seen again.

It's enough evidence to convince Larenis, should you choose to report it to him. He'll give you 100 gold for your trouble. You can alternatively try to bolster your case by gaining evidence from Petri's house. This is a little tricky, as said evidence is in a locked chest next to Petri's bed, with the lady herself being nearby. Presenting both this Letter to Rayina and Sorius' story to Larenis will net you 300 gold and a copy of Words and Philosophy.

You can also confront Petri herself, and say that you've been hired to investigate her. She'll offer you 100 gold to stay silent. Refuse, and she will attack. You may wish to accept and then present your evidence to Larenis anyway for a greater reward, but a vengeful Petri will then attack you the next time you speak to her. Alternatively, keep your silence, and conclude the quest by telling Larenis that Petri was telling the truth about her Legion service. Provided that you've not already shown him any evidence, he'll pay you 50 gold for your trouble. Otherwise he won't believe you, with his disposition taking a -20 hit, and with him promising to find somebody else ready to investigate.

Bugs[edit]

  • While you can present the Letter to Rayina to Larenis without having read it, you cannot present both the letter and Sorius' story (and thereby get the maximum reward) to him without reading the letter first. ?
