Follow the spirit fires
Widulf, a priest of Kyne, proctors the Trial of Spirit. It apparently involves drinking a somewhat poisonous mead and then running around the island. Widulf assures me the poison will connect me with my inner spirit.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Drink Widulf's mead.
  2. Follow the spirit fires around the island.
  3. Talk to Widulf.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

To start the quest, speak to Widulf in his tent. He greets you warmly.

"Ho there, friend! Welcome to my little shrine to Kyne.
I can sense a force, a spirit, radiating from you. You're here to take the Trial, right?"
Yes. What's involved?
"So glad you asked! In a word: poison. Well, poisoned mead. Well, over-fermented mead.
Here, just take this brew. It's the key to the door you're about to open."
Poisonous mead is a key. To a door?
"Yes! To your inner spirit. The brew enables your unleashed spirit to see fires, gifts from Kyne herself!
Follow the path of fire. But mind the scum weed; it'll slow you down."
If you say so, Widulf.
"Drink up, now. Outside the tent, if you don't mind. Don't want a mess if …. Well, just drink it outside.
And remember: run really fast!"

When you leave the tent, you will be prompted to drink the poisoned mead. Once you do so, a series of blue, stationary fires will appear. You must run into them, in order, before the mead wears off. They will lead you into the lake, where green patches will Tangle you, severely slowing your speed. You have two minutes and five seconds to complete the course. Widulf will be waiting for you at the final one.

"You did it! Congratulations!"
Thank you, I think.
"Oh, aye. You did great. Just great!
I'll let Vofknir know about your luminous inner spirit. Good luck in the rest of your journey!"

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
