He seems eager to explore the world.

"One day, despite what my sister says about any place that's not Solitude, I want to see the Mysterious Mermaid of Anvil statue. Apparently, it was there before the city was even built. Strange, right?"

"Have you heard the story of Yngol and the Sea-Ghosts, where Ysgramor wrestles spirits? That's why we call those waters the Sea of Ghosts, you know. One day I'll swim among them myself."

"I haven't heard from my cousin in a few months. Last time we spoke, he said something about looking for Blackreach. He's a hardy warrior, of course, but sometimes I wonder why he goes looking for trouble."

After Queen Gerhyld is murdered, he'll swear vengeance:

"You dealing with those who killed our queen? Count me in. My sword thirsts for their lives."
