Mryfwiil the Withdrawn was a Nord Harbinger of the Companions several hundred years after the death of Ysgramor. Known for his steady hand and wisdom, he was among the most notable Harbingers recorded by Swyk the Long-Sighted.[1]
History[edit]
Little is known of Mryfwiil's past before he joined the Companions. During that time, the Companions were known as the soldiers for hire, and considered "little better than mercenaries". Their services could be purchased for the fighting of wars, but the commitment to individual honor meant that often Shield-Brothers would be forced to face each other on the field of battle. This caused the risk of breaking of the bonds of honor that bound the Companions together. Thanks to Mryfwiil's wise decision, the Companions ceased to partake in any war or political conflict of any kind. He outlawed the practice of Companions fighting against each other. He is remembered for his steady hand, and the reputation of modern Companions as impartial arbiters of honor is largely attributed to him.[1][2]
