The Hollow Wastes (also known as the Hallowed Wastes) is the central most region of the much greater region of Alik'r in the province of Hammerfell. The Hollow Wastes is a barren wasteland with an endless sea of coarse sand, from the Iliac Bay to the mountains in the south. The city-state of Bergama is the largest settlement in the area, serving as a gateway between the Hollow Wastes and the deserts of Myrkwasa. On the northern coast is the city-state of Lainlyn, which serves mainly as a shipyard. In the center of the wastes is the training outpost of Leki's Blade; an oasis amidst the desert, it was founded by one of the last Ansei of Hammerfall. However, there is an actual oasis located east of Bergama called the Ogre's Bluff. The Aswala Stables near Lainlyn is the home of the Yokudan Charger, a powerful breed of horses that derive from the Akos Kasaz region of Yokuda.[1][2]
The Hollow Wastes were once home to the Desert Orcs, who valiantly resisted the Ra Gada for many years. However, as the coastal Redguard kingdoms grew stronger, the desert Orcs' holds fell one by one. During this time, in 1E 874 warrior-chief Thulgeg came of age and sought to unite the clans against their encroaching enemies. Heeding his call, the desert clans united. When Hegathe attacked Clan Korkhugg, Thulgeg led the clans to a decisive victory, earning him the title of Warlord. Recognizing that even united, they couldn't breach Hegathe's walls, Thulgeg concluded that an exodus was necessary. He led the clans eastward, joined by many Goblin tribes, as the Redguards gathered their forces. They eventually reached Orsinium in Wrothgar.[3][4]
