Fanacas is an Ayleid ruin found within the Valus Mountains, in the province of Cyrodiil. In its time, Fanacas was a mining hold for the Nedic slaves.[1] For the longest time, it contained one of the Ten Ancestors, religious artifacts that were once displayed at the Temple of the Ancestors. It was among the only modern Ayleid sites that still bore their ancient names by the Third Era.[2]
History[edit]
According to the Tamrilean Tractates in 1E 200, there was a Nedic slave overseer named Tharanus Ye Redde-Hand in the Fanacas mines. He was, in fact, one of the earliest known members of the noble House Tharn of Cheydinhal, one of the most well-known families of the Nibenay.[1]
During the Interregnum in 2E 582, the Three Banners War raged across central Cyrodiil. The ruins of Fanacas, along with the northeast were considered part of the Ebonheart Pact's territory. The ruins were located on the outskirts of Farragut Keep.[3] There was a dark and evil presence in the ruins, as if several sacrifices and offerings had taken place during the hold's active years. The Enchantress Mabrel Pierel traveled to Fanacas, preparing a ritual that would have given her immense power.[4] However, she was defeated by a wandering soldier of the alliances.
During the Oblivion Crisis in 3E 433, the ruins of Fanacas were plundered by a treasure hunter, who obtained one of the Ten Ancestors for the Ayleid enthusiast Umbacano in the Imperial City.[5] At the time, the ruins contained a coven of vampires,[6] likely part of the Cyrodiil Vampyrum Order.
