Elven ruins refer to the abandoned sites or structures built by the various races of Mer. Ayleid and Dwemer ruins are the most common to find.

Aldmeri ruins were largely constructed in the Merethic Era by elven explorers from the continent of Aldmeris. Most of their settlements were built in the Summerset Isles, utilizing colosseum-like stonework and containing malondo stones. The ones on Auridon were constructed by the Ancients, using an alternate style and containing culanda stones. Most of them fell into ruin due to the decreasing population of the province, or events such as the Hyperagonal Collapse Incident in Eldbur Ruins causing them to be abandoned. The Aldmer also constructed various towers in Morrowind.

Chimer and Dunmer ruins vary in architectural style. Many of them are Daedric Ruins built as places of worship and later abandoned, and strongholds made by House Dagoth before their dissolution. Ancestral tombs and Velothi towers are also sometimes considered Chimer ruins, though the latter were built by the Aldmer.

Orcish ruins were largely constructed by various clans in the Wrothgarian Mountains area during the Classical Period. They are often carved into mountains and are almost entirely made out of stone and built with a triangular style, containing large forges and reanimated statues.

Snow Elf ruins were built in the Merethic Era before the race's decline from the Nordic-Falmer War. Many ruins were destroyed by the invading Atmorans, with the remaining ones are often seen in isolated areas. They had a very elegant architectural style, building their edifices with white stone and gold lining.
