Calcelmo, Scholar of Markarth, was an Altmer conjurer of great renown who dedicated himself to researching the Dwemer. He and his nephew Aicantar studied the Dwemer ruins beneath Markarth. He is the author of the series of books known simply as Dwarves. His next expected work is a book on the translation of the Falmer language which is tentatively titled Calcelmo's Guide to the Falmer Tongue.[1]

Several translations of Falmer texts are accredited to Calcelmo.[2][3][4][5] While Calcelmo was considered eccentric for spending all of his time studying the Dwemer ruins, he did find the time to fall in love with a Redguard woman named Faleen.[6][7] Circa 4E 201, Calcelmo became an ally of the Last Dragonborn after they defeated a giant frostbite spider in the excavation site beneath Markarth.[1] Calcelmo would often request the Dragonborn to give them Dwarven trinkets they discovered while also occasionally assisting them with their research.[8][9][10]

Calcelmo had come into possession of several unique oddities found during his excavations. Among them was Stendarr's Hammer, which was found deep beneath Markarth and put on display in his Dwemer museum, where it was promptly stolen.[11] Another discovery was a strange mudcrab fused with Dwarven metal. He offered to sell this mudcrab to the Last Dragonborn.[12]
