Orcs[edit]
What is the deal with Orcs (Warlords, shamams, etc.)? Were they just orcs (the race), hostile with different classes? Or did they not have orcs as a race in DF?—Sam324 11:02, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
- Orcs were not a playable race in either Arena or Daggerfall (neither were Imperials). In Arena, they were nothing but hideous, weak monsters to kill (Oo, racism!). In Daggerfall, they are a lot stronger and uglier, but the game treats them with more respect. AlcaeusTheWizard 01:07, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
Pronounciation of Lich[edit]
Hmm, I noticed we have said that Lich is pronounced "Lick", due to its being of german origin. Simply: It's not. A german ch is basically un-"write"able in the english text. I'm sure that Benould will understand what I mean here. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 15:47, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
- Yep, to say that "-ch" in german is pronounced "k" is incorrect. As for how to pronounce lich in English, multiple sources that I checked all said that it rhymes with witch. Or more formally, the IPA pronunciation is "lɪʧ". See, for example, wiktionary (which also has a handy "rhymes with" feature). My printed dictionaries provide the same pronunciation. I give my printed dictionaries and wiktionary a lot more credibility than thefreedictionary.com, especially given that the freedictionary's first definition of the word is that it is an adjective meaning "like". --NepheleTalk 16:51, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
- Another ding against freedictionary: it claims that its source for the information is Webster's. But one of my printed dictionaries is Webster's... where it most definitely does not say that lich is an adjective meaning "like" and does not say that the pronunciation is "līk". So that information is as good as made up. --NepheleTalk 16:58, 4 May 2008 (EDT)

- Well, I'm still pretty sure it's not, but that's just my opinion. Do you pronounce Taglietelle "Tag-lee-tell-eh"? No, because although it is an english word, it comes from the italian language and we keep the italian pronounciation. Another thing is, I've come up with a way to explain the german pronouniation. Just like we don't say "Lotch Ness" we say "Loch Ness", same principle and pronounciation with Lich. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:38, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

- Some words in English continue to be pronounced the same way as in the source language; other words end up being pronounced differently in English. For example, "Paris" in English is not pronounced the same way as "Paris" in French despite the fact that the English word unquestionably comes from the French one. The pronunciation guides used in dictionaries make it clear that in English, lich is not pronounced using the german -ch sound. As I already stated, the IPA pronunciation key is "lɪʧ". The "ʧ" key corresponds to a "-tch" sound, which is clear by looking at the list of words that rhyme with lich. The IPA key for the german-type -ch is "x". For example, loch is pronounced "lɒx"; lich is not in the list of words that rhyme with loch --NepheleTalk 13:57, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

How do I tell what effect a monster did to me?[edit]
How do I tell what effect a monster did to me without looking here? I don't see any menu to show me, I just see a spell icon in the lower left above the hud. Windwakr 21:54, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Unless you want to hack your savegame, you can only identify the enchantment by the effects. This is very much like that "Real Life" stuff. I don't know I have the flu because there is a magic icon floating in my field of vision at all times; I think I have the flu because I'm tired, weak, etc. --Uniblab 19:48, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
What is AC?[edit]
What does AC stand for? Could someone insert info into the article so folks new to RPG-lingo will understand? --AgentDune 00:46, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- It is the Armor Class, or Armor Rating, for the creature. I have added the information to the page. –Elliot talk 00:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Humanoid Sprites[edit]
I've decided to start rounding up animated walk frames of Daggerfall's human enemies. I don't know them off the top of my head and am certain that certain classes share appearances, so the only real way to figure this out is to play the game and take note of any encountered. Or at least, this is with the assumption that caster enemies don't have their appearance randomly chosen from a group of "mage" sprites or something of the sort. What do we want to do about male/female sprites? I was thinking at first of combining them frame by frame into one gif, but that could be time-consuming and the images are small enough. Or perhaps we could alternate between displaying male and female variants? Opinons, please. StoneFrog 19:50, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, that would be really great. I like how the thief is done now, how there is a male and a female. 96.255.62.23 06:19, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Needing verification?[edit]
I noticed this page is in the category:Daggerfall pages needing verification, but I couldn't find the tag (probably missing the obvious). Which part(s) of the page need verification? --DelphiSnake 04:36, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Look in the Atronachs section. Most of them have Verification Needed tags in the Fighting Strategies column. – Robin Hood↝talk 04:39, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
For how long does a scorpion paralyze you?[edit]
I was paralyzed fighting a scorpion and *stupid as I am* I clicked save instead of load... now I am paralyzed whenever I load my favorite char and almost instantly die... how long does the effect last? Is there any way of removing the scorpion standing infront of me (hacking or something)? Any help would be much appreciated... — Unsigned comment by 83.94.246.228 (talk) at 10:18 on February 4, 2011
Air and Water Atronachs[edit]
This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered. |
Moved from article:
- "I disagree, I have run into air and water, air look just like flesh and are easily mistaken for them, except when explicitly looking at them( F3 then clicking on them), or trying to capture souls yourself. And water only exist under water, and they look like frost."
This is a pretty big revelation. I'm tempted to revise the page myself, but hopefully another editor who plays Daggerfall can provide some sort of verification. —Legoless (talk) 20:43, 6 October 2012 (GMT)
-
- Well i must say I highly doubt this, but I can also be wrong.
- These are the facts, after a quick examination of the game data:
- There is no trace of these atronachs in the MONSTER.BSA file.
- There is no trace of their names in the TEXT.RSC file.
- Their names only appear in the FALL.EXE file, but names for monsters etc, are used from the TEXT.RSC file.
- One place where you definitely will find an ice atronach under water is during the totem quest. I looked into the save-game data of this quest and could only find this ice atronach.
- The soul gems do exits, but from mind I'm not sure about the Water Atronach. Air and Earth can be found, I once provided a note where you can find an Air Atronach soul gem. Soul gem locations are hard coded, at least from my experience, thus every individual Mages Guild e.g. School of Julianos sells them regularly.
- But once again maybe I'm wrong, I'm not omniscience, also when it comes to Daggerfall.--PLRDLF (talk) 22:22, 6 October 2012 (GMT)

-
- So what do you propose we do? The anonymous editor claims to have seen them. Regardless of what game data says, in-game experiences should probably be given preference. Should we take their word for it and alter the article, or leave it be and hope that someone can provide further verification? As an aside, since you're looking at the creature names in the FALL.EXE file, can you clarify the name of the "Water Atronarch"? Is it misspelled in-game, or was it transcribed incorrectly to the wiki? —Legoless (talk) 16:15, 7 October 2012 (GMT)

- The name used in game is Water Atronach it's definitively a transcription error, on this page and in the soul bound table.
- And once again to the MONSTER.BSA file; Ii contains both Dragonlings, the one with a soul (only encounter in the knight order quest) and the one you will regularly encounter. So in case these Atronach do exist, why is there no evidence in the file that contains all monster data ? Maybe it's possible that captured souls transform into the souls of Air, Earth, Water Atronachs, I don't know. I've never considered myself with capturing atronachs because their souls are too petty, according to the table.
- Second, you will always get a brief message after you have killed an enemy. It's short but from these messages I've learned that the Vampire Ancient was originally misnamed on the Monster page (was named Ancient Vampire instead) even before I've concerned myself with the game in detail. So I believe, I would have noticed if there are any Air, Earth Water Atronachs during the course of the years. But as I've already said, nothing.
- If you want to research this issue in detail, I suggest visiting dungeons at lower and medium levels, where you will definitely encounter atronachs, for example dungeons of the type laboratory. At higher levels you will mostly find liches there. Than explore these dungeon until you have encountered enough atronachs and note how many Air, Earth, Water Atronachs you have found. This may be the only way the check this for sure.--PLRDLF (talk) 20:39, 7 October 2012 (GMT)
- And by the way, while we are talking about atronachs, I've never noticed this "damage aura" feature, so this is probably incorrect information or unimplemented features as well.--PLRDLF (talk) 20:44, 7 October 2012 (GMT)

- Yes it's the soul capture thing I've guessed. I've tested capturing the soul of a flesh atronach and the soul turned into the soul of an Air Atronach. I was using Azura's Star but it will most likely work for common soul gems also. So it's possible that the ice, iron atronachs will turn to Earth and Water also, I have not tested this. The F3 thing mentioned in the original note does not work though, it still claims "You see a flesh atronach". Well another new feature discovered in this game. Daggerfall holds still many surprises after all this years.--PLRDLF (talk) 01:45, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

(←) Hi Folks. I am the one who wrote this obviously controversial bit of information. So I thought I should add some more to help. I am Playing the DaggerFalls CD free version from Bethesda. I believe this is v2.13. I have encountered the Air Atronachs in several dungeons and been able to identify them both alive and dead as such, but only encountered one Water Atronach as I haven't encountered very many underwater dungeons as yet. Playing a level 9 dark elf Spell Sword, nothing else out of the ordinary. I hope this helps — Unsigned comment by 70.81.119.42 (talk) at 19:31 on 8 October 2012 (GMT)
- Hello again, I am back with another bit of confusion. I have leveled up(10), and now find that when flesh atronach die, if you look at the corpse in info mode(F3) I get "You see a dead air atronach". A different behavior from earlier levels. Similarly ice, become water when they die. Once again sorry for adding to the complexity of the problem. Just a newbie player, who will probable get around to registering by the time he gets back to playing Morrowind again. — Unsigned comment by 70.81.119.42 (talk) at 15:50 on 14 October 2012 (GMT)

- Well here is what I've found out after playing for a while:
- The F3-Info on atronachs still alive always says it's a flesh, fire, ice, iron atronach. The person who stated otherwise is clearly wrong.
- Using th F3-Info on the corpses of flesh, ice and iron atronachs says indeed it's an air, water or earth atronach. This is also the reason why I've never noticed this, who would ever want to know what kind of corpse it is lying to his feet?
- Capturing the souls of these three atronachs will always result in a captured soul of an air, earth or water atronach.
- Air, Earth and Water Atronachs are not mentioned with a single word anywhere in the Daggerfall Chronicles, neither in its bestiary nor in the soul bound table.
- Since the Chronicles contains also a lot of info on stuff which was dropped in the final game, I believe this whole matter is clearly an oversight made by the developers. They simple forgot to change the names and nobody ever noticed this back then when patches were still released. It clearly would be possible to make a patch correcting this confusion by renaming the atronachs. Since tho souls are already there it would be logical to rename flesh -> air, iron -> earth and ice -> water. This might be an option, the other one might be simply keep the current status mentioning that the names were not changed accordingly in the released game--PLRDLF (talk) 21:18, 7 November 2012 (GMT)

Wraith Glitch?[edit]
I made a new file, and went to the city daggerfall. I was running around at night and was chased by a wraith so i climbed onto a nearby building, and tried to think of what to do, when "wraith just died" appeared at the top of my screen...so the next time this happened i watched and what happens every time is that the wraith gets caught in a corner, freaks out for a moment, then vanishes, with the message appearing 2-3 seconds later. Can anyone shed any light on this? — Unsigned comment by 76.164.101.160 (talk) at 01:18 on 22 January 2013 (GMT)
- if it became stuck in a corner it probably entered the building registering out of the current map, therefore dead.Thescrollshavefortold123 (talk) 03:27, 16 July 2013 (GMT)
Beast/Enemy Corpses[edit]
Why do none of the enemy or beast creatures have their corpse sprites? Some are overused for certain enemies but if the creators took the time to make special corpse sprites for other enemies...shouldn't they be included in the page?
