The Heretic[edit]

When you speak to him, he will introduce himself:

"Greetings, Warrior. My name is Sharolg gro-Ugdub, and I am chieftain of my village. Are you the Queen's champion?"
I am.
"Good."
Just call me <playername>.
"Very well."
"She told me you would help me."
What do you need?
"One of my daughters has been kidnapped by a madman. I need you to bring her back."
Why can't you do it?
"This madman - a heretic named Ghorkul - lives in a cave with a group of trolls. They will attack anyone but him. I told the Queen this, and she said if anyone can defeat a cave full of trolls, it's you."
Okay, I'll help.
"I will escort you to my village when you are ready."
Trolls? Not interested.
"I don't want to imagine what is happening to my daughter now."

If you initially refused to help but return later, he will continue to request your aid:

"Warrior. Fight for our village and Malacath will smile upon you. Ghorkul slanders Malacath, whose vengeance cannot be escaped."
Okay, I'll help.
"I will escort you to my village when you are ready."
Let me think about it.
"Fine."

If you speak to him again after offering to help, he will urge you to follow him to his village:

"Let us depart. I grow uneasy."

When spoken to in his village, he will direct you to Ghorkul's hideout:

"Up this road you will find the cave where Ghorkul lives. If it is true what Queen Urzoga has told me, the trolls will not be a problem for you."
We'll see about that...
"Indeed, we shall."
They won't.
"Good."

If you speak to him again before setting out, he will urge you to complete your task:

"My daughter belongs here, in the village with me. Make sure you bring her back."

If you spared Ghorkul, he will confront you in the cave:

"I feared it would come to this, Warrior. That warlock has charmed you with his evil tongue. He is a villain! But you are just a fool. I will kill you, then the heretic, and all this will be done!"

After you defeat him, he will demand that you end his misery:

"Augh! Fine, kill me. Ghorkul can be Chief and run our village into despair. Damn it all..."
I'm not going to kill you.
"Do it! I am defeated and dishonored."
Death is no escape.
"Hah. Yes, I do wish to escape. I must now live with the shame of losing my daughter to a heretic. Forgive my weakness. I am not accustomed to this kind of pain. I must... meditate. Good-bye, Warrior. May our paths never cross again."
You can repair your honor.
"What do you know of honor? No, you are making a stand for what you believe in. I can see your honor, though it fills me with hatred. I will meditate on this. Good-bye, Warrior. May our paths never cross again."
Times are changing. So should you.
"And throw away thousands of years of tradition? Perhaps I should appoint Shagdurz our Chieftain. I am doing what my people have always done. And now you, a stranger, tell me this is wrong? When did I get so old? I must meditate. Malacath will give me my answer. Good-bye, Warrior. May our paths never cross again."

Notes[edit]

  • Sharolg is notably paler than other Orcs.
