Acquiring uniforms

Wouldn't another way to do this (perhaps much more easily) be to cast a frenzy spell on one of the guards? You just need to be able to cast enough a high enough level frenzy spell (since the guards are generally a few levels higher than your character), but then you should be able to get a pretty good fight going that should end up with at least one dead guard. --Nephele 23:34, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

Tried this today - no response from the targeted guard, for the following reason given on the Frenzy page. . ."Since guards are constantly ten levels higher than the player, a high magnitude Frenzy spell and 100% Spell Effectiveness are necessary to affect them." 76.192.99.0 08:33, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

You also might be able to find some on shelves in the guard barracks, or pick-pocket them off the guards while they're sleeping. If you're sneaky enough, nobody has to die for you to have a uniform. (And watching the guards patrolling the city in their skivvies is pretty funny, too. Another way that I did it was to get "Nisters boots" at Best Goods and Guarantees located in Leyawiin. They cost a little, but they are good for water breathing. I went to Bravil (or anyplace that might have a harbor or bridge directly over water). I threw "Flare" one time at a guard to get his attention, which gave me a 40 gold fine. I got him to follow me into the water and got him under the a dock from a port and he drowned and there he stayed under the dock. I swam to the top and went straight to a guard, and I paid my fine for assualt. Went back and took the guards uniform. I did this at level 2. You don't say (specifically, at any rate) how to obtain Imperial Legion armor, which is, of course, heavy plate armor, as opposed to the light chain armor worn by most city guards, and thus may be of more practical use to some players. This isn't mentioned on the relevant quest page, so perhaps it doesn't happen for all players, but, when my character was preparing (after the closing of the Oblivion Gate) to take back Kvatch castle and rescue the Count, three Imperial Legion troupers (two soldiers and an archer) turned up to help. As a "good" character, it really wasn't entirely through self interest that I endeavoured to keep the whole group (seven or maybe eight in all, I think) of Kvatch and Legion guards alive with convalescent spells during the subsequent action. In fact, I was very proud that I got them all (apart from the single character that had to die for the story to continue) through to the final battle in the Count's inner quarters. I had, however, been casting envious eyes on the Legionaires' armor and weapons, and so finally allowed myself to give into temptation and let them fend for themselves in the final battle. The result of this was that two Legionaires and two Kvatch guards died, and I was able to loot their armor and weapons. Unfortunately (for me) it wasn't the Legionaire archer, whose equipment I had particularly envied, who died, and he, along with a couple of Kvatch guards, are still stuck forlornly, wandering without purpose, in the limbo of the destroyed city (I almost feel like I should put him out of his misery >;->). --Armod 195.92.67.75 17:07, 27 February 2007 (EST)

Imperial Palace Cuirass

If there are, in fact, no guards encountered during "The Ultimate Heist" who actually carry this armor, should the page be amended to correct this? Does anyone know if the same is true of "Light the Dragonfires"? Or if the absence of this armor is due to the patch? The IP Guards inside the Council chambers wear the Palace Cuirass during Light The Dragonfires. During the Ultimate Heist, I think the guards that patrol the Palace upstairs also wear this specific cuirass, but I'm not sure. outright murder for 40g bounty...

im doing this right now and it is quite easy (im lvl 18) just make you mages staff (mine is 80pts shock) and zap the guards3-4 times and poison them...they die and you only get charged for assault...

That's because the game reads poisoning as a different person attacking rather than the player.

Why isn't it playable?

Because there's a flag set in the construction set that says it is not "playable." As for why the developers made that choice, you're unlikely to get a a definitive answer unless you ask a developer. But it's safe to assume that the developers didn't want the player using the watch armor. --Nephele^Talk 01:13, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Pretty suspicious?

If you aquire a guards uniform and you decide to parade around the city I think it's pretty lame that the guards in that city don't find it strange than an Argonian walks around in guard armor, just after one of their fellow-guards decided to die. In Morrowind you had the Indoril armor that made the Ordinators flip and I kind of hoped that Oblivion would allow me to kill guards this way too:(

Legion armor

And you can take it all without penalty after finishing the main quest because it gets marked as yours and the stolen flag is removed. I was gutted when I discovered that because I wanted to up the amount of gold I got by selling stolen gear to Fathis Ules. Leyawiin...

I have noticed that the Leyawin uniform is not in the How to obtain it area. Is this because of laziness?

1. Simply kill the gaurd, grab the armor (and shield if you want it) and either pay off your bounty or serve time.
2. There should be a dead Leyawin gaurd and horse nearby a Oblivion gate (sometimes the gaurd does not appear, may be me only though). Not the gate for the Allies for Bruma quest. The one by the East city gate.
3. Around the Oblivion gate that the count's son goes into (Allies for Bruma quest) there are 4 or 5 Leyawin gaurds that are killing any deadra that come out. Some of them may die.

I figure if you are going to give hints on how to obtain the city uniforms then you should at least include all of them, eh? --W27Y 11:08, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

If you would like to make suggestions, please do not start off by insulting every editor on the site with accusations of laziness. Your suggestions are nothing more than what is already covered in the General Tips section of the article. First of all, I apologize for making it seem like I was insulting anybody. That is not what I intended. I know that people work very hard on this Wiki and I appreciate and respect that. It was bad wording on my part. Like I said: I apologize. I did not mean to insult anyone, I understand laziness was probably a bad word to use.

Second, there is a different way to get the uniform so it is not all that redundant (dead gaurd by the Oblivion gate on the East of Leyawin). Maybe I missed something (or a lot of something knowing me) and I apologize for that too. I am sure though there is someone wondering how to get the Leyawin uniform blood free (not killing or stealing) so I wanted to present a way or 2 how.

Bruma Tip Inaccuracy?

From the article:

This is one of the easiest to get. Just do the Two Sides of the Coin quest. When Tyrellius Logellus attacks you at the end, you can kill him freely without any risk of bounty. He also always carries an almost complete set of chainmail armor, useful if you are a lower level light armor character. You will not get the Bruma cuirass from this quest, however.

When you kill him at the end of the quest, Tyrellius carries neither the Bruma cuirass nor the Bruma shield at that point of the quest, as far as I can remember. It's just a basic set of chainmail armour he wears, isn't it? So while you're technically getting armour from a Bruma guard, you're not actually getting anything unique to the Bruma guard uniform by killing and looting him. So, should that be removed from the article? I dunno if I'm missing something (I know he wears the cuirass when he has a chat with Jorundr, but not when he fights you; I assume you can't kill him easily or bounty-free if you attack him while you're still in jail) which is why I'm not making the article edit myself. --Dalimyr^{(T ≈ C)} 21:58, 11 March 2009 (EDT)

how to get All the guard uniforms

ok all you have to do is smack a guard then run in to the fighters guild they kill him for you go out pay your bounty come back to the body and get the stuff. *note* you can't block or you might kill the guard and receive a large bounty.Cold nord0 16:50, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

Difference bewtween chainmail and steel

Is it worth noting that skingrad guards wear steel along with their normal guard outfit and all the other guards wear chainmail? --65.87.242.28 17:03, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it is really worth noting. Had the armor been more expensive/valuable, it would be. But with just steel and chainmail, I don't think it warrants a mention on this page. --Elliot^(T-C) 17:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

How about another option?

Well I'm new on this whole oblivion talk stuff but I have played oblivion alot and one thing I noticed was that there's a quest I think gives you the armor. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the quest mazoga the Orc Give you the armor? Not give you the armor but give you a quest to get the armor. In the quest she says she's a guard ( eventhough she is not a guard) but going through the whole process and completing the quest gives you the imperial dragon shield (the white and gold imperial shield, I'm not sure if imperial dragon uniform is the correct name) but the reward for that quest is that white and gold shield, you get it from the count of leyawin. Wouldn't doing quests for him (after accepting the offer of becoming a white horse gaurd or whatever it's called) give you the rest of the armor piece by piece? — Unsigned comment by DeadStranger (talk • contribs) on 5 September 2009

Leyawin/Bravil

Simply get a Will o' the Wisp to follow you to the front gate. The guards will most likely kill any other creature you get to follow you but they can't hurt the wisps with their silver weapons. 173.66.234.111 19:36, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Silver weapons ignore Resist Normal Weapons (see Oblivion:Weapons), so that is not true. It is likely the reason why guards were given silver weapons, to prevent such issues from occurring. --Timenn-<talk> 13:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah. You can't hurt wisps, ghosts, or wraiths with fine steel shortswords, but spells, silver weapons, and the Blade of Woe work just fine.

Legion Armor Bug?

PS3 user -- I acquired a set of legion armor from a dead guardsman who died by falling. Strangely, the armor stats are all wrong. The weights appear correct, but the armor ratings give the following: boots 2 (not 4.5) ; cuirass 6 (not 11.25) ; gauntlets 2 (not 4.5) ; greaves 3 (not 6.75) ; helmet 2 (not 4.5) ; shield 7 (not 13.5). These stats give the armor "iron" quality, but at legion weight! The armor is at 100% health, my character is level 3. Any ideas? (PS3 user)71.224.13.163 17:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Marcus

The stats listed are those that you will see at level one-hundred. You probably don't have a fully leveled heavy armor skill. --AKB ^Talk 17:27, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Trust me, I'm not trying to belabor the point, but this is how the items appear when I bring up my character's inventory. Will the inventory statistics actually change as my character's levels increase? If so, when/how? I must say, this is my third character and only the first time I've noticed this kind of discrepancy in the inventory stats vs. the stats provided on the site. Can Someone else please test this?

I have recently tried to get some free armor from the skingrad guards and I got some for one of the strangest reasons. I frenzied 2 guards, then summoned a scamp. One guard attacked the Scamp, the other ran, got other guards, and teamed up on the guard who attacked the scamp. What would have provoked the guards to attack that one guard? I have tried this with many other summoned creatures, like ghosts, Atronaches, Liches, and Daedra, Hungers, and the undead(that includes the three shambles.(Replete, Decrepit, and the normal one.))

Has really no one noticed this yet after all this time???

To get a guards uniform without killing anyone is very simple! All you have to do is enter during the night the guard house/barracks of the town guard you want to take the uniform from (this isnt even considered trespassing except for Leyawiin). Just go to the place where the guards are sleeping and pickpocket from one of the sleeping guards the cuirass and shield (also helmet if you still dont have it) - the guards take off their helmet, shield and cuirass when they lay down to sleep, some that you find already sleeping might even have their whole armor taken off. The armor pieces will count as stolen property of course but just sell it to a fence then buy it back and from now on it will be legal. This also works with the Imperial soldiers just go to one of the towers where they sleep (like during "Untaxing the Poor") and pickpocket their armor, however entering the room in which they sleep is considered trespassing but if you use chameleon it shouldnt be a problem. The only ones this doesnt work with is the Kvatch guard because there are only a few left and they dont have a place to sleep but that cuirass and shield we can get from one of the dead guards inside the gate or from those that die during the battle (unless we manage to keep them alive). The robbed guards will now walk around without the pieces of armor you stole, however it seems they eventualy get back to normal if they were random nameless guards I never tried it with the specific ones but I once stole Lex's claymore and if I remember correctly he never got a new one. — Unsigned comment by 93.105.243.166 (talk)

With Essential Characters

I've figured a rather easy way to loot Legion Armor, provided you're an Apprentice at Illusion, and aren't up to the Arena Champion Match. Get a Touch of Rage spell from Calindil (Mystic Emporium, Market District), go to the Arena and cast it on Agronak. If he doesn't attack, lower his disposition, and he should attack. Run outside to the nearest guard, and watch them fight. Since Agronak is essential, he won't die, but the guard isn't. Continue casting the spell on Agronak until he kills the guard. You won't get a bounty since casting Frenzy on people isn't assault. You can use any essential characters for this. --124.168.182.146 03:18, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
