Silgrad Tower (also spelled Silgrod Tower)[1] is a settlement located in the mountain region of northwest Morrowind,[2] in the jurisdiction of the Great House Redoran.[UOL 1] The town was built around an ancient minaret and it serves as a border settlement protecting the road between Morrowind and Skyrim.[1]

History[edit]

In the latter years of the Second Era, Tiber Septim and the Imperial Army were gathering to the west from Silgrad Tower and Kragenmoor for their invasion of Morrowind. House Redoran was well prepared to flank the armies across the border but the other Great Houses were either reluctant or uncooperative. After the Armistice was signed between the Third Empire and Morrowind,[3] the Imperial Legion took over Silgrad Tower and used it as an outpost on the border.[1]

During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, the town of Silgrad Tower was an active settlement. It was ruled by Count Shalpar and had a rivalry with Karththor Dale. Silgrad Tower was neighbored by several settlements, including Reich Parkeep to the north, Verarchen Hall to the east-southeast, and Skyrim[4] to the west toward Riften.[5]

Notes[edit]

  • There is another provincial checkpoint between southeast Skyrim and west-central Morrowind in the same general area called Fort Virak, which was more active earlier in the Second Era.[6]
