Urkazbur, otherwise known as Mad Urkazbur, was a powerful and intelligent Snow Ogre shaman, known as the "Ice Elder of the Ogres" or the "mad Ogre wizard".[1][2] Urkazbur resided in the wilds of northern Wrothgar, where he had gathered a small army of fellow Ogres.[3][4] Urkazbur was considered unusually intelligent for his kind,[5] even seemingly knowing how to read Tamrielic.[5][4] He was a master of powerful totemic frost magic,[2] his impressive abilities included the power to create enchanted duplicates of himself made entirely of ice. These effigies started out small, about the size of a child's doll, and would grow large enough to fight at his side.[3][6] Urkazbur was known to regularly practice his ice spells.[1]

Biography[edit]

Urkazbur once attacked a camp of fellow Ogre elders soon after some of them healed the leg of an injured researcher with ice magic. In the fight, Urkazbur displayed dominance over them with his own ice magic. The researcher was able to escape the Ogres unharmed,[2] though they were killed when they attempted to return. By the time they did, Urkazbur had succeeded in killing the rival Ogres and turned their camp into an altar for performing his magic.[7]

Circa 2E 582, he was considered a danger by the inhabitants of Orsinium, but his skills were still admired by the Orcs. The museum known as the "House of Orsimer Glories" desired one of his not completely enchanted ice-effigies for their collection, as they considered it "history in the making".[3][8] Desiring more culture for the city, King Kurog commissioned a High Elf scholar named Cirantille to deliver some of her books to the city, but her shipment was attacked by Urkazbur's Ogres.[9] Among the shipment was several dozen copies of her book "The Ogres of Wrothgar: A Continuing Treatise",[5] said book being a bigoted text on Ogres, dismissing their intelligence and magical capabilities and claiming they deserve to be killed.[10] Urkazbur had his Ogres destroy these books, leading to a contract being put out for him to be killed and the pages recovered.[9][4][5]

The Vestige fulfilled this contract, recovering the book pages and killing Mad Urkazbur.[4] They would also recover one of Urkazbur's ice-effigies which would go on display in the Orsimer House of Glories. The bigoted and supposed expert on Ogres, Cirantille, who ordered for his death, considered Urkazbur simply the exception that proved the rule when it came to Ogre intelligence, calling him a brutish freak, cursed with intelligence above his station. Being quoted as saying "Can't have ogres thinking they're people!", as one of her reasons for why he had to be slain.[5]
